VIDEO INSTALLATION
Hjärterum is related to the project Cycle of Violence . They have been developed together and although they seem to be opposites, they are strongly connected. While working on Cycle of Violence and the theme of domestic violence, I felt that I needed to create something that would give the protagonist comfort and a sense of safety and security, so that she could stop defending herself and stop exposing others to violence. At the same time, I feel responsible and guilty for exposing my audience to Bunny's violence, and I want to give them a place to recover. This is how the idea for Hjärterum was born.
The music for this installation was composed by Marcus Sander. The song you hear is a recording of my mother singing an old Swedish folk song. My parents used to sing to us as we went to sleep. To this particular song I have always had strong visual experiences while being in a very safe place between being awake and dreaming. A state of free imagination and the brain's own associative half-dream, while consciousness is still there and it is possible to observe, wonder and be surprised by what is coming.
